HSL Pile Foundation Analysis

Python-driven force analysis of a high-speed-rail bridge's pile foundation, combining multiple non-linear models to verify safety.

Role
Structural engineer
When
HSL Rijpwetering

The Rijpwetering bridge on the high-speed rail line (HSL) was showing deformations, prompting an analysis of its current and future safety against the European norms and standards.

Several non-linear models with different load configurations and varying spring constants were built to study how forces transmit through the structure. I used Python to parse the XML output from the SCIA Engineer models, then combined the forces to determine the enveloping tension in the concrete pile foundation, allowing the piles to be verified with section-by-section unity checks.

This one sits right at the intersection of my two careers: structural engineering problem, solved with code.
